Elizabeth Luger Burgess
Elizabeth Luger Burgess, age 75, passed away on August 20, 2018 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Betsi was born on September 11, 1942 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to George and Betty Luger; she grew up St. Petersburg, attended St. Paul Catholic School and Boca Ciega High School. Betsi attended the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York, then began a long and successful career in retailing, primarily with Macy’s in New York and San Francisco and The Emporium in San Francisco.
She was engaged in and supported many charitable, civic and national organizations throughout her life. In 1992, she and her husband moved from San Francisco to Mississippi, then on to Flowery Branch, Georgia and St. Petersburg, Florida. She continued her philanthropic and civic activities and reinvented herself as The Florida Dream Painter, completing nearly 5,000 of her “yard art” paintings since 1998, bringing joy and happiness to those who enjoyed her unique and colorful creations.
Betsi leaves her beloved husband John, her son Todd, his wife Katrise and grandchildren Dylan and Savanna of Hong Kong; her brother Don Luger and his wife Sharon of Atlanta, brother Tom Luger of Belleair Beach; her cousins Sandra McManus Rowzie of Madeira Beach and Pat McManus Remos of Atlanta; her niece Morgan Luger Reynolds and nephews Christopher Luger and TJ Luger.
